  Organization For Women In Sciences

OWIS The Organization for Women in Science is dedicating to increase the participation of women in the sciences (including Heath Sciences, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Information Science, and Engineering) in all professional arenas, including academia and industrial venues.

At the University of Pittsburgh, OWIS was organizaed in January 1997, out of concern by undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff for the underrepresentation of women in the sciences and technological fields.

OWIS meets regularly and organizes a number of educational and enlightening events each year. Students within the Department of Biological Sciences are encouraged to get involved with OWIS.
