Pittsburgh has always ranked high on the list of "most livable cities," according to the Places Rated Almanac. In 1985 we were rated "most livable" in the entire United States. The 2007 edition, released in April, places our fair city at the top of the heap once again, rated "most livable" among 379 metropolitan areas.

"If you look at some of the cities ranked right behind us, certainly they have great reputations, and it's an honor to be the No. 1 city in America," said Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravensthahl. " I think it's great."

Nine categories are used to make the list, lincluding cost of living, transportation, jobs, education, climate, crime, health care, recreation, and culture/entertainment. Pittsburgh isn't the top in any of the categories alone, but it's high up in all of them, placing it at #1 once again. This is the seventh edition of the almanac, and Pittsburgh is the only city to rank in the top 20 in every single edition.
