The Department's microscopy suite is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for both light and electron
microscopy, for digital image creation and handling, and for conventional photography and film development. The suite houses both
scanning and transmission electron microscopes (see image below) as well as a complete system for laser scanning confocal
microscopy (showed to the right) with 3D
image reconstruction using a graphics workstation. This facility is staffed by a full-time microscopist, Mr. Tom Harper, to assist
students and researchers with their projects and is located on the first floor of Crawford Hall
(consult our building floor plan for precise location within Crawford Hall).
