To graduate with a PhD degree in the MCDB program, students must fulfill the following requirements:
First year
- Pass each of three components of the MCDB Graduate Core Course with an average grade of B or better
- Obtain a grade of B or better in the Graduate Seminar Course (BioSci 2450)
- Perform satisfactorily in each of the three research rotations
- Achieve an overall level of performance sufficient to warrant approval by the faculty for continuation into the second year
- First year students are supported by the Department and are not required to teach
Second year and beyond
Evaluations and Exams
- Continuation into the second year is contingent on a successful preliminary evaluation
- Students become official PhD candidates on passing a comprehensive examination at the end of the second year
- The Ph.D. degree is awarded on submission, oral defense and acceptance of a research dissertation.
