Charles W. Lidz, PhD Professor of Psychiatry and Sociology University of Massachusetts |
| Dr. Lidz is Professor of Psychiatry and Sociology at the University of Massachussetts, where he is also Director of the Center for Mental Health Services Research. He is known for his use of qualitative methods of data collection and computerized methods of analyzing such data. His research has focused on a number of different areas of bioethics including major projects on informed consent in medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Dr. Lidz recently completed a five year study of issues related to coercion in mental health admission for the MacArthur Foundation Network on Mental Health and the Law. His current research is investigating the therapeutic misconception in informed consent to research. | |
