| Dr.
Kolarik is Assistant Professor in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine
and General Academic Pediatrics. He received his BA from the University of
Notre Dame in English and Pre-professional Studies and his MD from the Medical
College of Ohio. He completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine
and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is
board-certified in both specialties. In 2001, he completed a fellowship in
General Internal Medicine and Bioethics and is completing his thesis project
for the MA in Bioethics. His research interests include advance care planning,
physician-patient communication, and the use of narrative and literature in
medical education. He serves on the Ethics Committee and participates in the
Ethics Consultation Service. He is the Co-Director of the Area of Concentration
in Medical Humanities at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine where
he teaches courses in Literature and Medicine to medical students and is
faculty sponsor of the Literature and Medicine Discussion Group. He has
published poetry in DoubleTake magazine and has contributed to the
Journal of Medical Humanities, Journal of General Internal
Medicine, Journal of Palliative Medicine, and the Journal of the
American Medical Association. |
