Dr. Fischer is a board-certified internist in the
Department of Medicine's Division of General Medicine. He is the author of
articles on ethics in emergency care. His current research interests
include doctor-patient communication as it relates to advance care
planning, and the place of religious values in ethics consultation. Dr.
Fischer teaches interviewing techniques to medical residents and teaches
medical ethics to first-year medical students. He also conducts ethics case
conferences for medical students and residents in pediatrics, internal
medicine, psychiatry, and critical care medicine, and serves on the UPMC
medical ethics consultation service.
