Bio
I am a freshman majoring in Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. I am from Charleston, West Virginia, the capital of my fine state. Even though I am out of state, it still only takes me about three and a half hours to get to school. I attended George Washington High School in the South Hills area of Charleston. In high school, I played basketball two years for the school team and two years for my church’s team and played soccer all four years of high school and even won the state championship my senior year. My other activities in high school included church youth group, President and founder of my school’s Philosophy Club, Vice-President of the George Washington High School Investment Club, and participated in math field day and the geography quiz bowl team. Last summer, I was a lifeguard at the Charleston Tennis Club pool and thee Charleston YMCA pool. My other work experience includes being a tutor of math, chemistry, and physics in high school and working at an Engineering camp at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. My main volunteer work was through the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston at which I coached Kindergarten through Second Grade Basketball. I plan on majoring in Biomedical Engineering because it appeals to my interests across the board. It combines physics, chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, and engineering principles to get solutions that will better people’s lives. I chose the University of Pittsburgh because it was a large research university in a big city which meant I would have all different kinds of opportunities. Additionally, Pitt was the best Biomedical Engineering program for the best price (and just happens to have the best basketball team in the county) and I was myself in a completely new environment with new people and wanted to learn how to adapt.
