This is a rare and curious album. It was released in 1953 when Ellington's career was in the doldrums. Popular music seemed to be leaving him behind. Capitol Records decided to make him more fashionable by repackaging him. Clearly, the album is designed to appeal to the young people of the 1950's.

Unfortunately, the album's content has little to do with the cover. A very danceable "C Jam Blues" begins the set, but most of the selections are designed for listeners, not dancers, such as Juan Tizol's oriental flavored "Bakiff" and Ellington's piano improvisations on "Kinda Dukish." Not surprisingly, this album didn't sell very well either.
