Rosemary Clooney was a great singer. But in the 1950's, she became trapped in Columbia's zeal to turn out cheap, hit records. Consequently, she recorded many albums that were beneath her. Duke Ellington, however, was important enough to call his own shots. Billy Strayhorn arranged this album, and it is a nice collaboration of vocalist and big band.

Interestingly, Rosie gave birth shortly before the album was recorded. She was unable to travel, the Ellington band was on the road, so they recorded their tracks at different times. Such recording techniques are common now, but it was quite unusual at the time.
