Almost to the end of this ordeal.

I applied to the following schools:
|
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Patrick is there and working toward his Doctorate. If they accept me, we would graduate from the same place at the same time. Plus, Pittsburgh is all about the french fries, you gotta go there to know. |
University of California Med School, San Francisco What a GREAT time. I stayed with Lisa and her two roommates. We went clubbing, adventuring, running, I got a library card. This is the single best school I applied to, and right now it's vying with Pittsburgh for #1. |
Oregon School of Health Sciences This is the second West Coast school I'm looking at. So many people live out that way and swear the Portland life is the good life. It seems to be like Italy, everyone who goes there says it's the best. |
University of Wisconsin Medical School I enjoyed this visit, but I will confess, I was surprised at how conservative the SOM is in Madison. I've always seen Madison as a bastion of crazy liberals. I was a little disappointed. |
University of Minnesota Medical School (Twin Cities) A great interview with an MD who has worked in international health development for a long time. I really enjoyed it, and got some really good advice. I was pretty broken-hearted when I was waitlisted. |
|
University of Minnesota Medical School (Duluth) UMD also turned me down. Generously, they provided a list of my failings. It was a short list with only one item on it. They complained that I didn't intend to live and practice rurally forever. True dat. |
Tragic. They called. I interviewed. I did not thrill them. They must have sent the rejection letter the very next day. |
University of Washington Medical School They turned me down before I got the secondary. I didn't meet residential requirements. This is something I should have realized, but I didn't. |
University of California Medical School, Davis They invited me to submit a secondary after I had already have four excellent interviews. Their secondary is huge, by the way. A dozen essays, thousands and thousands of words, too much work for a school I'm not sure about. |
I didn't like them (huge school feels like a doctor factory), they apparently didn't like me. Still, I do love Milwaukee and I resent them making my decision to move for me. |
I rate myself in the following way (and I'm trying to be as honest as possible):
| MCAT | Grades | Community Service | Essay Writing Skills | Letters of Recommendation | |
| Percentile | 90th | 50th | 98th | 40th | 75th |
| Back to Medicine |
