Andrew's Friends

This is a page for the many friends and acquaintances I've come to know in the last quarter century.  In no particular order:

Medical School friends, three words per:

Rob Klune:  Philosophy.  Whiskey.  Bastard.

Ian Yuan:  International.  Clubs.  Citrus.

Jeanna Goo:  Bay.  Korea.  Student.

Ruth Overlease:  Outdoors.  Skiing.  Games.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Here are a bunch of interesting people.  They fight the good fight everyday.  I love people like that.

When I left, they threw me a party.
I only worked there three months!
  Sharon even made a stir-fry.
I love stir-fry.
Theera's a great guy, he has a "system" for working casinos.  It won't work, but he's devoted to it.
He's a poop engineer.
Marsha knows pretty much everything about everything DNR-wise.  Very helpful for a short-term employee who has to know everything ASAP.

The Social Life in Milwaukee

Elinor Tretheway - I don't think I've ever had a better friend.  She also happens to be my girlfriend.  I spent the last few days in a panicked rush to complete an hour long presentation on the successful small-scale development projects.  If you want to see the story of a great idea and a beautiful woman, you can check out the Elly page.

Jesse - When I met this guy in high school, he was still wearing a mullet.  Really.  A mullet and a hideous orange Denver Broncos sweatshirt.  Time has been kind to Jesse, he has moved to New Jersey, found a wife, and got a haircut.  I went to his wedding in August, it was a great time.  This guy is good at keeping in touch, we chat about once a month and eventually I'm going to convince him to come visit me in Pittsburgh.  No luck yet.

Jasper Berg - I've known Jasper since second grade, maybe earlier.  We've gone down different paths, but we keep getting back together.  I joined the Peace Corps, he joined the War Corps.  I'm applying for Medical School, he is leaving for Law School.  I voted Nader (sorry!), he voted Bush.  Come November, I'm going to drug his coffee.  But still, he's a cool guy

Nick and Angela

These two looked after us during our first days as Milwaukeeans.  We share a similar taste in politics, travel, and adventure.  Best of all, they throw dinner parties.  Their kitchen has every little obscure tool ever known to cooks of any culture.  They have at least three tools used exclusively for the preparation of garlic.

Following the rules of the Kevin Bacon game, you can likely find the two following friends on the website Friendster.

Jocelyn - The descriptions of Jocelyn found at Friendster feel inadequate.  They refer to her intelligence (very real) and her propensity for violence (perhaps overstated).  I would describe Jocelyn as a person of improbable contradictions.  She is punk and she revels in the punk scene (Captured by Robots).  Unlike most punks, however, she enjoys the company of her mother, and can be seen enjoying "normal theater" with some regularity.  She sports the winter colors of the goth subculture as well, with a fair German complexion and black rage boots.  Her vestments belie a reserved person whose personality can tend towards effervescence.  She is at once porcelain and oak.  When I think of Jocelyn, I think of tea.  Jocelyn understands the culture of tea.  Both she and tea move effortlessly through a variety of cultures.  She shares the timelessness and the sensible traditions of tea.  Unlike tea however, I don't expect her to be thrown into any harbors, for reasons political or otherwise, and this is good because we can't just grow more Jocelyn.

Carla - Carla now lives in Atlanta.  Too lazy to craft my own words to describe her, I'll fall back on the wit of others, several words and phrases especially do her justice: "you want to be in her world" "conversationalist" and "short" all ring with truth.  Carla has the effect of making any situation feel like it should be recorded.  When you watch Friends, you see stunningly attractive people exchanging prefabricated witticisms in absurd situations.  Spending time with Carla is all that, except that spontaneous takes the place of prefabricated and she vary rarely endorses corporate products.

Richard Sitler - A photographer for a really, really obscure newspaper in Noblesville Indiana.  I'm putting him on top because he has cool pictures (what with him being a photographer and all).  We met in Jamaica, shared a Midwestern Presbyterian upbringing and a taste for travel, and then almost died in the woods (see Three Guys Lost in the Woods - when I get around to posting it).  I've just discovered that he has some savvy girl doing his webpage, and I can't steal his pictures.  I can, however, send you to them, and it is worth your time.  Richard's Photos.

I know other people too, but I'm bored with this page, I'm moving on.
