Who We Are
We seek to promote understanding of the experience, institution, and cultural meanings of adoption in relation to literature, history, philosophy, anthropology, law, political theory, cultural studies, and other humanistic disciplines, and to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of artistic creation dealing with adoption and related issues in poetry, fiction, memoir, film and other genres.
The Alliance has arranged three international conferences, the last one, at MIT, with 85 speakers from 8 countries and about 300 people attending at least one session, and has begun a scholarly journal, Adoption & Culture, the first of its kind in the humanities.
