Professional Engineers during this day in age are needed everywhere throughout the world. They solve some of the world's toughest problems and lead the way in modern design and technology. However, this field is not for everyone and I question everyday if it is the right choice for me. While I do find some of the things we are learning interesting, other topics and concepts are quite unclear to me and I don't know if I would be able to make a good contribution in this profession.
Registered Professional Engineers are qualified licensed professionals in the field of engineering. Their license is only valid in the state where they are registered. Before one is eligible to be licensed, they need at least 12 years of education and experience. Every country, and even each state within the U.S., has different requirements in order to be registered. The most common requirements are to graduate with a four year degree from an engineering program at a university, complete the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, have supervised engineering experience, and to complete the Principles and Practice in Engineering exam. It is important to be registered as a Professional Engineer so you can make a contribution to the field and society. Licensed Engineers are more informed and prepared and put public interest at the top of everything they do. Also, it would be highly beneficial when searching for a job.
Anyone who is going out into the workforce should be well-qualified. This is especially important for Engineers because many of them will have a huge impact on society. Therefore, it is highly important to be a Registered Professional Engineer so the risk of making a costly mistake is reduced.
