Prasat Hin Phimai
|
This is the main view of the inner compound after crossing
the serpent bridge and entering the outer compound. This particular site
has been partially restored.
|
We hired an English-speaking guide to show us around.
Here he is showing us a building where royalty gathered before going to
the religious ceremony.
|
This was supposedly the library (scriptorium) for the
sanctuary complex.
|
A view of the inner compound. The windows are "fake,"
filled with small columns so no one could see into the central sanctuary.
|
At the heart of the sanctuary is the Buddha under Naga.
Naga is a mythical protective serpent. Here Buddha sits on a coiled naga
and the creature's head forms an umbrella over him (someone must have
anticipated the deterioration of the Prasat and a leaky roof!)
