TCA Partners

Perhaps the best way to think of the Technology Commercialization Alliance is as a one-stop shopping center for commercial innovation development and entrepreneurial support. Below is a list describing our TCA Partners and the services they offer:

Office of Technology Management: The OTM manages Pitt’s intellectual property and all technology licensing deals. Staff members also assist with the commercialization process and patenting issues. Ultimately, all University innovations pass through the OTM on the way to commercial market. more

CUBE: Overseen jointly by the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Pittsburgh and the President’s Office at Carnegie Mellon University, this partnership funnels collaborative opportunities to the TCA from the business community and helps identify potential funding sources.

PantherlabWorks: A technology-oriented virtual business incubator that helps identify potential markets, market size and growth rates, product development feasibility, venture scalability, and financial profiles. It serves as a case manager in the TCA’s commercial readiness process. more

Swanson Center for Product Innovation: Located in the School of Engineering, this center helps design, analyze, and develop prototypes using cutting-edge computer systems, prototyping machines, plastic injection molders, machine tools, and other manufacturing equipment. more

Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business: The business school’s faculty members provide entrepreneurial education through the Center for Executive Education and Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence, as well as advice in key business concepts such as technology cluster development and financial management. more

University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering: The school provides engineering design and collaboration services, as well as manufacturing process assistance through its Manufacturing Assistance Center. more

Office of Enterprise Development, Schools of the Health Sciences: The Office of Enterprise Development (OED) facilitates the commercialization of technologies developed by University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences faculty, so that the public may benefit from University discoveries and inventions. As a service of the Senior Vice Chancellor, the OED works in close partnership with the Office of Technology Management to provide strategies for success and assistance with developing ideas into viable commercial opportunities. more

University Library System: Pitt’s library system provides case-management expertise from its senior leadership, as well as a wide array of information resources to provide entrepreneurial support and education. more

University of Pittsburgh School of Law and School of Health Sciences, among others: These schools have demonstrated a desire to work actively with the TCA and assist with programming for faculty, staff, and students. They provide ongoing counsel, education, and other collaborative assistance.

Office of Government and Community Relations: This office provides ongoing links to state and federal government officials, government-administered research funding programs, and other related resources. more
