Pittsburgh is in a huge period of growth and expansion. While most obvious are riverfront developments like stadiums, waterfront parks, and a convention center, the growth doesn't stop there. Expansion in Station Square and The Waterfront, as well as planned developments on the North Shore, add not only new retail establishments, but also residential housing and business space. Old downtown buildings have become funky loft apartments and dilapidated Victorians have been lovingly restored on the Mexican War Streets. Plans for a new ice arena and revitalized downtown shopping district are in the works, and a number of cultural establishments and museums have added new buildings or have planned expansions.
