Once known as the cradle of American industry and "Gateway to the West," Pittsburgh is no longer defined by or dependent on the steel industry that made it famous. Pittsburgh has used its natural resources, strategic location, and strong work ethic to create a vibrant new economy. Now trails, parks, restaurants, apartments, and corporate headquarters sit on old mill sites. The city is devoted to attracting and keeping businesses here and has worked hard to develop the incentives, attractions, and workforce needed to do so.
