What Makes Pitt Special?
Few public universities offer as many high quality educational opportunities as the University of Pittsburgh. We offer excellent instruction built on pioneering research, including undergraduate and graduate programs ranked among the best in the world.
It’s no wonder we attract and nurture talented, ambitious students. In 2006, Pitt undergrads were selected for both Rhodes and Marshall scholarships; only eight other universities can make that claim.
Students can participate in research, service, experiential learning, and study abroad activities, and more students than ever are part of the academic community at the University Honors College.
Urban Setting, Small-Town Feeling
Recently named “America’s most livable city,” Pittsburgh combines big-city features with a low cost of living. Our Pittsburgh Campus is surrounded by museums, libraries, theaters, and other cultural attractions. Other amenities—public parks, hiking and biking trails, major-league sports—are a short walk or bus ride away.
A Welcoming Atmosphere
The idea of attending a university with thousands of students may seem intimidating at first. But our commitment to learning, discovery, teamwork, and engagement along the “Pitt Pathway” guides every aspect of life at the University.
All incoming students take the “Pitt Promise,” a pledge to create a campus atmosphere of “mutual respect and civility, self-restraint, concern for others, and academic integrity.”
By embracing diversity and interaction, we help students find their “niche” in groups and activities that support and encourage them.
