1932

Charles Glen King
Charles Glen King, University of Pittsburgh chemistry professor, identified the chemical structure of vitamin C.

King and his colleagues isolated and identified vitamin C after five years of research. Thousands of lemons gave their lives so that scurvy, a sometimes fatal disease caused by vitamin C deficiency, could be defeated. In recognition of this medical breakthrough, some scientists believe that King deserved a Nobel Prize.
