University Update: The Chancellor Search Process

TO: Members of the University Community
FROM: Stephen R. Tritch
Chairperson of the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees
DATE: January 6, 2014

As we welcome a new calendar year and the start of a new semester, it is an appropriate opportunity to provide you with a brief report on the status of the Chancellor Search Committee’s work. I am pleased to tell you that the committee has developed a very strong pool of candidates. In the interest of maintaining the confidentiality that is important to the process, I cannot give you any details about the candidates, but I can assure you that, given the quality of these individuals who come from all over the world, the word has gotten out about the stature and accomplishments of our University.

The members of the Search Committee have been working diligently to review the candidates’ credentials and the search process remains on target to identify a new leader for our University before August 1.

I can also tell you that the candidates have been impressed with the dedication, commitment, and contributions of the faculty, staff, and students at Pitt. All that you have done to make Pitt the great institution that it is today is very apparent to those who seek to lead it.

The input which many of you provided earlier in the process has also proven invaluable in informing the candidates of the culture of the University and the expectations that we all have for its continued success.

Thank you again for all that you do for Pitt. I am proud to serve as chair of the Trustees and I can report to you with confidence that our search for a new leader is going well and I fully expect the Committee to bring the search to a successful conclusion. To help ensure that success, we will be maintaining the confidentiality of the proceedings as we move forward, and I will share the result with you as soon as that is possible.
