2007 Update of Safety and Security on the Pitt Campus
New: Emergency Notification Service
The University of Pittsburgh is launching an emergency notification service to enable students, faculty, and staff to be immediately informed of emergency situations through text and voice messages.
A critical component is for each person to provide emergency contact information. Visit my.pitt.edu for further information.
Creating a safe campus is everyone’s responsibility.
The University of Pittsburgh is committed to providing you with a living and learning environment that will make your experience at Pitt as fulfilling and secure as possible. To accomplish this goal, several University departments have collaborated to enhance Pitt’s emergency preparedness, particularly with regard to training, equipment, and planning.
The following pages provide an overview of security facts and information that will be helpful to you. Everyone on campus should be safety conscious and follow security procedures. If you have any questions or need additional information, you may contact any of the departments mentioned in this Web site.
How You Can Learn about Campus Safety, Security, and Crime Prevention Programs on Campus
In accordance with PA Act 73 of 1988 and the federal Jeanne Clery Act, all students and employees receive this updated security information annually. All prospective students and applicants for employment are also provided with information on security policies and procedures and on how to obtain additional security data.
When students arrive on campus, they receive a handbook with sections on justice, health, and safety, and a booklet describing the University of Pittsburgh Student Code of Conduct and Judicial Procedures. The University of Pittsburgh also has numerous crime prevention workshops and seminars throughout the year on the Pitt campus. These are sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Police Department, Office of Residence Life (for resident students), Student Government Board, Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association, Pitt Program Council, and other departments and organizations on campus.
