RESEARCH:
: My doctoral dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania studied the effects on heart rate, heart rhythm, and arterial blood pressure of three procedures used by acute myocardial infraction patients to move in bed. I have also studied the unidentified needs of the patient having open-heart surgery and child abuser identification and prediction.

TEACHING:
I am the primary teacher for: “Applied Cardiopulmonary Critical Care” , a Senior special topics course. Additionally, I am the primary teacher for “Foundations of Nursing Practice I”, the first term Sophomore level course with direct patient contact. In addition to these primary responsibilities I also have instructed clinical experiences for the Senior level students at Presbyterian Hospital and for Sophomore and Junior level students at Veterans’ Administration Hospital. I currently instruct Junior and Sophomore students in the development of their clinical practice. Prior to joining University of Pittsburgh, I was teaching senior level critical care and leadership courses at Desales University and practiced as a critical care clinical nurse specialist/staff development instructor at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C..

SERVICE:
I serve on the BSN committee, Curriculum committee, and Faculty Practice council as well as numerous ad hoc committees at the school of nursing. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the American Nurses Association and the Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing Association. I hold a lifetime membership to the National PTA in recognition of my work in support of children’s health and welfare.

BACKGROUND:
Previously, in addition to my teaching experience I practiced on coronary, medical/surgical, thoracic, trauma, intensive care units and general medial surgical units in many cities in the northeast.
