RUSSIAN POLITICS

For over a decade the region composed of the former Soviet Union and
the states of Central and Eastern Europe has undergone major political,
economic, and social transformations. The Department of Political Science
in conjunction with the University's Center
for Russian and Eastern European Studies has a strong commitment to
advance the study of this region. Topics covered include political (institutional)
transformation of the state, democratization, economic transformation
and integration, cross national relations, human rights, and political
tolerance. Through the Center for Russian and Eastern European Studies,
undergraduate and graduate students may earn certificates of specialization
in this region. Graduate students, especially, are encouraged to study
extensively the political climate and institutions of the former Soviet
Union through course work and field study.
