Fast Track Back: Re-Entry to Practice for Registered Nurses

This program is designed for Registered Nurses with a current nursing license in the state of Pennsylvania for re-entry into hospital-based nursing practice.  This program is a recognized refresher program and not a reinstatement program, which is required in the event a Registered Nurse has let the nursing license expire.

Classes are offered twice during the calendar year.  The schedule for the year 2008 is: 

  1. SPRING SESSION - April 16, 23, 30, May 7 and 14 with clinical practicum completed by May 25.
  2. FALL SESSION - October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29  with clinical practicum completed by November 9.

Cost: $1,300.00 – tuition covers the cost of the program, textbooks, lunch and parking for the didactic and simulation components in Oakland Campus
$12 – Liability Insurance fee

ABCD-iet Program: 
Intervening with Minority Youth

This continuing education program is designed to educate school nurses on current research related to pediatric obesity and to prepare them to make decisions regarding implementation of culturally appropriate weight management programs, based on critical evaluation of existing interventions.  This project is funded by a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant.  The specific aims of this project are to:

  1. Educate school nurses on current pediatric obesity research and evidence-based recommendations for diet and exercise in growing children
  2. Assist school nurses with initiating and individualizing the ABCD-iet Program to address cultural and racial characteristics of their student populations
  3. Measure changes in school nurses’ knowledge and confidence in managing nutrition and lifestyle modification for parents and children
Continuing Nursing Education Credits

Continuing Nursing Education contact hours will be granted by the University Pittsburgh School of Nursing.  The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania  State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. 

All nurses are invited to participate in this on-line program.

Best Practices in Patient Safety: Sharing the Evidence

Overview

Patient safety is the highest priority in health care delivery.  There is a wealth of evidence that supports the value of inter-professional communication, technology and a healthy work environment to promote safe patient care.  This conference showcases the best practices in patient safety as they relate to communication, technology and work environments.  National and local professional nurses from all health care arenas will present their best practices and discuss their outcomes in promoting patient safety.

Who Should Attend

The target audience is clinicians, educators and managers in clinical and academic settings.  At the conclusion, nurses will learn how evidence, applied in practice, promotes patient safety.
