RESEARCH:
I am currently working in two areas of research. First, I am conducting a NCI funded study (1R01 CA118711) to examine the interaction of behavioral and biological markers of distress in caregivers of patients with a primary malignant brain tumor. I am also part of a team (NINR; 1 RO1 NR004339; L. Hoffman, PI) working on a study to evaluate biomarkers of cerebral vasospasm and outcome following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
TEACHING:
I teach NUR 1610, Applied Pathophysiology for RN to BSN students and am also the faculty coordinator for NUR 3008, Ethics, Health Policy, and Finance for the Doctorate in Nursing Practice program.
SERVICE:
I am an active committee member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and serve on the executive board of the American Board of Neuroscience Nurses. I also work closely with the National Brain Tumor Foundation, Oncology Nursing Society, and the Behavioral Cooperative Oncology Group, among others.
BACKGROUND:
Over the past 17 years, I have worked with neuroscience patients as a floor nurse, supervisor, clinical nurse specialist, educator, and researcher in a variety of geographical settings including Virginia, Hawaii, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
