RESEARCH:
My scholarly interests include cancer symptom management, patient
education, stress and coping, and theory-guided psycho-educational
intervention research. Specifically, my research focuses on symptom
management for women with ovarian cancer, with a particular emphasis
on developing psycho-education programs to help women manage their
multiple symptoms. Much of my work is conducted in collaboration with
the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Currently, we have developed
a theory-guided symptom management intervention to be delivered by
nurses via secure internet messaging to women with ovarian cancer.
In addition, in collaboration with clinicians at Magee, we are preparing
to begin a research study to assess beliefs that women have regarding
symptom management that may interfere with symptom reporting.
TEACHING:
I teach NUR 2003 Health Promotion, a core course in the graduate
program. I guest lecture in undergraduate courses on care of women
with ovarian cancer. I also serve as a preceptor for students in the
graduate level research practicum.
SERVICE:
I am an active member of multiple professional organizations
including the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Pain Society,
the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists, Sigma Theta Tau, and
the Eastern Nursing Research Society. I serve on the Medical Advisory
Board of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. I am also a reviewer
for Oncology Nursing Forum.
