Social Justice

Lord God, help us to learn, by the example of Your saints, to seek always to grow in our love for You, and to show forth that love by our care for all Your children and Your whole creation. Help us to spread peace, defend justice, and promote human dignity. Help us to love our neighbors both in our involvement in society, and in our relationships with individuals; both through our actions, and through our prayers.

Dear Reader: click on the headings below to find links to various organizations working to promote social justice and related issues. The organizations represent many points of view, and I encourage you to practice discernment when reading their various pages. However, I felt that each was sufficiently worthwhile to include here. Most sites, in addition to providing information, also provide opportunities to participate in their work in one way or another; and all could benefit by your prayers.

Human Rights

Saint Maximilian Kolbe, you experienced life as a prisoner in the dehumanizing world of a Nazi death camp, yet you had the courage to give up your life to save another. Pray for us that we might put an end to injustice, violence, poverty, and neglect. Help us to reduce fear and hatred, and instead spread peace, joy, hope, and love.

Pro-Life

Saint Joseph, patron of social justice, you cared for Mary during her unexpected pregnancy and raised God's Son, our Lord, as your own son. Pray for us that we might protect the lives of the unborn, provide support for parents, care for all children, and respect the lives of all people.

Environment

Saint Francis of Assisi, you saw the glory of God in all His creatures. Pray for us that we may be true stewards of creation, making wise use of natural resources and protecting the environment. Help us, too, to rejoice in the wonders God has created and to see that all things are connected in our common connection to God.

Health and Disability Issues

Saint Raphael, archangel of healing, please pray for all those who are experiencing illness, all those who care for them, and all those who are seeking cures. Help us to promote healthy conditions for all people, and to care for those with ailments of body, mind, or soul. Help us further to promote respect for those who have disabilities or illnesses, that our society may be open to all people.

Government

Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland, and Saint Catherine of Siena, advisor to kings and popes, pray for our leaders that they might have wisdom, and pray for us all that we might take an active role in our local and national governments, to promote justice.

Blessed Mother, help us to care for our brothers and sisters. Queen of Heaven, pray that we might have the courage to spread God's Kingdom. Handmaiden of the Lord, pray that we might have the humility to serve God in our service of one another.

God send forth Your Spirit, and renew the face of the Earth; for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
