Undergraduate Internships

Undergraduate communication internships can be found in a wide variety of communication-related fields. Several offices at Pitt offer advice on how to find an internship, as well as links to many other university, community, and worldwide agencies which can help you find an internship. Once you find an internship site and a Communication Department faculty sponsor, fill out the Internship Agreement form and bring it to a Communication Advisor.

Finding an Internship: Suggestions and Links

Students must have a 2.75 Q.P.A. to qualify for a Communication internship. Students interested in interning should take the Communication Department Internship Agreement Form with their internship information to a Communication Faculty member to request sponsorship.

Communication Faculty who may Sponsor Internships

Most students find internships at local radio and television stations, non-profit agencies, and local businesses. The Communication Department has specific requirements for interning students which you can read on our Commrc 1900: Internship Requirements page. Each interning student will also complete a Communication Department Internship Agreement form with their internship site supervisor.Once you have found an internship, or while you are looking, ask an eligible Communication Faculty member to sponsor your internship. (Or you may choose to instead complete a CAS internship with any CAS faculty member. See the CAS internship website for more information on this option.)

Two of the most useful websites for securing an internship placement are The Office of Experiental Learning website and the CAS internship page. Here you can find information about internships, and search through multiple listings. This site will direct you to current listings, or you can go directly to:

You will probably be asked to sign up for PantherTracks. This is a free and valuable service, and takes a few days. We encourage you to sign up for PantherTracks now.

Contact undergraduate advisor John Gareis for more information.
