Outside of a dog, a book is probably man's best friend; inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. The library in Langley Hall houses books and periodicals in the biological sciences and is physically enclosed within the Clapp/Langley/Crawford complex (consult our building floor plan for precise location within Langley Hall). The Langley Library holds more than 77,000 bound volumes on site, and maintains ~500 current journal subscriptions. Several prominent journals are also available on the World Wide Web. The library holdings range from volumes, dissertations, monographs, and journals in every topic in the biological sciences, covering both basic and advanced topics. The library conducts courses on using computers for research/literature searches in the biological sciences and has 13 computers for this purpose. Together with the nearby University of Pittsburgh Libraries for the physical sciences, the Falk library at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, and the Mellon Institute Library at Carnegie-Mellon University, the Langley library is part of a superb educational resource.
