The Center provides clinical ethics consultation at Montefiore University Hospital and Presbyterian University Hospital of the UPMC Health System and at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. This service provides responses to actual clinical dilemmas by professionals with experience in thinking through the complex ethical issues raised by modern medicine. In addition, the service serves as a laboratory for teaching and research on moral dilemmas in clinical practice.

Center faculty members also serve on the UPMC-Presbyterian ethics committee. Several Center faculty members also serve on the University of Pittsburgh's Health Sciences Ethics Panel, which advises the University's Senior Vice-Chancellor for Health Sciences on policy matters related to bioethics.
